English Premier League - Part 3: Players that need to be sold by their clubs
The Summer transfer window has been open for what seems like forever now. Most teams have had players coming in for almost every possible position that anyone can think of. Almost all the time everyone has talked about the players that need to be brought into the team to make an impact on the side or what player could fill the missing void to help steer the team to success.
While the addition of some players would make a significant change to the side, the exclusion of some players could prove to have almost the same impact on the side. Here is a look at players that teams could do without and would most probably even perform better without.
Robinho: One of the best talents to emerge from the gifted country of Brazil, over the last decade is Robinho. The Brazilian forward caught the eyes of the footballing world from the tender age of eighteen when he used to play for Santos. Robinho was one of the best players to play at the club even in his opening season.
He was constantly picking up on his form and always looked to impress in every game that he played. After four years of winning the hearts of fans from all over the world while playing for his home town club Santos, the player finally moved to Real Madrid.
The player was equally as good during his seasons as a Madrid player. He was in the top three in both the lists of, leading goal scorer and assist creator. The player was finally picking up form when in his third season, the club refused to renew his contract. This failiure to renew the players contract eventually led to him departing from the Bernabeu to joining, Manchester City in the Eastlands.
The player made a dramatic impact on his arrival and was an immediate fan favourite at the club. He was constantly impressing the crowd with his fancy footwork and his immense technical abilities. In his second season at the club, he fell down the pecking order due to injuries that he had sustained. This failure to break back into the starting eleven lead to the player looking to move away from the club.
When no team came forward to sign the player, he moved to his childhood team of Santos in Brazil on loan. He emerged to be the same player that he had been early on in his career and managed to regain full fitness. Near the end of his loan deal the player asked to extend his stay at Santos. City refused and said that they were willing to sell the player to the Brazilian club.
Santos, admitted that they couldn’t afford the player. The player returned to City after the end of the transfer madness. However the player is yet to make an appearance in the starting eleven or even on the bench for the team. This indicates that the player is still out of favour at the club and is very unlikely to feature in any matches any time soon.
The smart thing for City would be to let the player leave if a team comes forward with a bid for the player. This would firstly prevent City from paying the ridiculous wages that Robinho is earning at the club and would help them reimburse some of the money that they spent on the player.
With Robinho hitting his late twenties he is also in dire need to play first team football, which he will not be getting at the Eastlands. If the player manages to leave it would end up being a blessing in disguise for both Manchester City and Robinho himself.
