Parthiv http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Huzefa-Mohammed-Patel-c63657 and Dravid’s caught behind dismissals highlight the shortcomings in the Hot Spot – Cricket News Update
The Hot Spot technology continues to baffle the players, umpires, experts and cricket fans as it failed to detect an edge when the opening batsman of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Parthiv-Patel-c2159 was dismissed caught behind in the second One Day International of the ongoing five-match
ODI series at Rose Bowl on Tuesday.
Patel, the 26-year-old http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ajinkya-Rahane-c970 to discuss whether he
should call for a review or not. After much discussion with Rahane, Patel decided to walk back.
Although there was no review this time but the Hot Spot technology later failed to show any edge, while the snickometer detected it.
The former India cricketer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aakash-Chopra-c41377, was irked by the continuous failure of Hot Spot in detecting edges. He questioned the credibility of the controversial technology using a micro-blogging website.
"Hotspot didn't detect the edge, once again,” posted Chopra. “Did we even know its efficiency when we agreed to using it? Or were we forced to use it?" he added further.
Hot spot has been hotly debated since the International Cricket Council started using it to aid the Decision Review System as it has led to several controversial decisions.
This was not the first time that the Hot Spot failed to show an edge. A similar incident happened last week when India’s middle order mainstay, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Marais-Erasmus-c74368 despite Hot Spot not detecting the
ball getting an edge off Dravid’s bat.
However, snickometer, the technology which is not part of the UDRS under current provisions of the review system, later suggested there had been a noise while the ball passed the bat.
That decision yet again brought technological shortcomings to the fore under the UDRS system.
These incidents have once again highlighted the technological shortcomings of the controversial Decision Review System, which India have been reluctant in using in its bilateral series.
