Participants proud to wear the “Wasurenai 3.11”logo: 2011 World Championship
The participants of the GAC GROUP 2011 World Table Tennis Championships showed solidarity with the Japanese on May 8, at Rotterdam. A participant, Krisztina Toth, from Hungary moved a step ahead and wore the Japanese T-Shirt with the logo “Wasurenai 3.11”.
“We will never forget.” The Hungarian player proved that the loss of the Japanese will never be forgotten by the world. They stand united with the victims of the disaster that swept away cities and also resulted in a nuclear emergency in the country.
Krisztina Toth has won the Junior Girls’ Singles title in 1991, at the European Youth Championships. She has also won the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Pro Tours title twice in her playing career. She is featuring in the 15th World Championship
of her playing career.
The Hungarians have also been in the lime light when it comes to extend their support to the victims of natural disasters or any other natural calamity. The Hungarian table tennis players also have a history of producing legendary players in the past. There
wouldn’t be in any Hall Of Fame player without any Hungarian present on it.
The Hungarian player, Krisztina Toth was proud to wear the shirt. The Hungarian squad is one of the six countries who are wearing T-Shirts with the logo “Wasurenai 3.11”.  The other countries who has the letters printed on the playing shirts are Canada,
Colombia, Egypt and New Zealand.
Krisztina Toth expressed her feelings and said, “I’m proud to have the opportunity. I’ve visited Japan many times; always I have been made most welcome.  Always the Japanese are very polite, very well mannered. Over the years I have played against many Japanese
players, for me after China they are the best in the world and I have made many friends, good friends.”
The earthquake and the resulting tsunami that struck Japan was one of the major disasters the country has faced till now. Cities were swept away with thousands of lives lost. To add to the misery of the Japanese a nuclear emergency was declared in the country
as the earth quake damaged the Fukushima Nuclear power plant.
Millions of people were asked to re-locate from the suburbs of the nuclear plant. The radiation levels in some areas reached an alarming level.
The city that was completely wiped out and suffered the maximum loss of life was Sendai, Japan. In the current World Championship there are three players from the city; Ai Fukuhara, along with Seiya Kishikawa and Sayaka Hirano who attended a school in the
city.
For the Japanese the memories of the disaster will always remain alive. The way the country and its citizens have dealt with the disaster is an example of their unity and the support they extended to help out their compatriots is a lesson for the whole world
that countries are built with unity of their people.
