  1. Nov-April is a good time for seasonal horticultural work, as in fruit picking &c. You will have no trouble getting a job in Nelson, Napier/Hastings, Central Otago, Blenheim, South Auckland and a few other places. You need to be in those places and look for vacancy signs on orchards as you travel around. Work is high paid if you work hard as the more you pick the more you earn. Be careful to take precautions as to the sun. You may think that because you are from the tropics that you will not get sunburnt, but you will, the sunlight in NZ is the harshest available because the hole in the ozone layer is right above us. Put it this way. I went once to India and got tanned. I came home to NZ in early summer and got burned on top of my tan. So be warned, wear clothing that protects you from the sun including wide brim hat and long sleeve shirt and use sunscreen.

Another good option is to sign up for WWOOFing (Willing Workers on Organic Farms) - google it, make sure you get the NZ site. You pay a small fee and get free board and rent in excahnge for working a little bit every day. There are organic frams dotted all over New Zealand. Good Luck. Post an email address and I can contact you privately if you wish. Good Luck.
