Partnership of Malaysian shuttlers Mak Hee Chun, Tan Wee Kiong in danger
The partnership of Malaysia’s back-up men’s doubles pair of Mak Hee Chun and Tan Wee Kiong is in danger as their declining performance in local and international events has dragged them down to a position of world number 35 from the 21st position.
Apart from the game, there are certain misunderstandings between these two shuttlers which are disturbing their coordination in the court. Malaysia’s coach for back-up players Tan Kim Her has warned both the shuttlers that they need to perform better in
the upcoming Malaysia Open GP Gold and Thailand Open, otherwise he will split them up.
“They had everything going for them but the lack of trust of each other is now jeopardising their future as a pair,” said the coach.
The pair of worked really hard in 2010 and delivered some terrific performances by beating top pairs in the world.
They defeated the former world number one and top pair of Malaysia Tan Boon Heong and Koo Kien Keat and the second seed Korean pair of Yoo Yeon Seong and Ko Sung Hyun. These performances earned them the 21st spot in the men’s doubles world rankings.
However, their poor form after those performances destroyed their chances to qualify for the World Championships 2011. Kim Her said that the Badminton Association of Malaysia is providing them with the best available training and coaching assistance and
despite that, their gradual bad run in the international events is quite alarming for the Association.
“On top of that, the BAM (Badminton Association of Malaysia) are giving everything – good perks and more opportunities to compete. I hope Mak and Wee Kiong will not waste this chance,” added Kim Her.
The Malaysia Open GP Gold will start from 3 May, 2011 while the Thailand Open will begin from 7 June. Let’s see if both of the players manage to get their act together and keep their partnership intact.
