  1. first things to do are get it on the dyno and get it jetted properly

then spend as much as you can afford on the suspension this is the most important thing it doesnt matter how fast the bike is if it dosent handell you may as well not bother.

if after this you still feel the need to get more power you can start with a pipe leo vince , acropovich , fmf , pro circuit and yoshimuru are the best then get race ignition . if your still not happy with the power wich i doubt you wont be then get the head gas flowed and put pro circuit cams in it . if you can still use all the power now get a factory ride !

  2. If you never raced before than i would race the bike stock for a while so you can find out what you would like to put on it. Your best bet would to get your suspension done first, because you cant ride a fast bike if it doesn't handle right. If you cant put parts on your bike correctly then take it to a good shop.

  3. Only do it yourself if you know exactly how to do it. I would recommend getting new lightweight parts but im a fourwheeler guy so i dont know much about dirtbikes.

  4. Bird has good advice as unless you need more power which you should not only starting out then the suspension should be what you should look at.  Take the bike to someone who does suspension and they will set it up with your weight in mind and for the conditions that you ride under.

Ride it standard but ask questions of those you race against as to what tyre is best for what conditions as different tyres perform better in different conditions.  If you keep asking questions you will pick up on small things that can make your bike go better without spending heaps.  So it's important to learn about how to adjust little things on your bike to suit conditions on the day and you can only pick up those little hints by asking questions.

    Good luck
