  1. No. Except places where the US Military staying.

  2. first person is right... BUT

now over there, they start teaching their kids english at like 2nd grade! so most young folks will know english.

  3. But they dont speak solely englisch

Add the British Military Bases to your list

  4. I was in Cologne, Munich, the Rhineland and drove all around.  Every place we went, with the exception of a few small restaurants and shops, spoke english.

  5. Well I wouldn't call the Americans' language "English", to be honest. British English is proper English, American English is just a dialect.

  6. I don't agree with Homer. Even on U.S. military bases, there are people who don't speak English. Civil staff, and some freshly married German women who still have to learn, for instance.

But as to the original question, to some extent or the other, ALL parts of Germany speak English, except maybe some freshly immigrated persons or the elderly ones. English has been part of our education, and will always be.

Thomas the Tommy (German nickname for the British in WWII)? Now just tell me that you're a real Brit and not a fake apostle, and I'll be laughing my a** off!

  7. US military bases

  8. No there are no parts of Germany speaking solely English.

  9. The younger Germans take English in school and a lot like to practice on you. Around the military bases and most Germans on the bases speak pretty good english. But it definitely helps to learn the basics like Danke- Thank you and Please- Bitte(pronounced bitta). Get a book with words and phrases to help you out. Even though I had 2 years of high school German and a semester in college,I still needed a book for harder words.

  10. No, but there are always individuals who can speak English all over Germany.  I would suggest if anyone is traveling or thinking about making his/her home in Germany to learn some German.  You'll enjoy your stay better.

  11. Homer is right.

  12. Why should that be the case? Are there any parts in the US where people speak only German - I am not talking about Texas Germans or Pennsylvania Dutch who speak old forms of German.

No, besides US Military bases (with the already mentioned exceptions) there are no areas where English is the "official" language.  However, most Germans particularly the younger ones speak English pretty well.
