Parts of my white kitchen are yellow -- trim on inside of doors, etc.?

the insides of my white doors (the vertical sealer on the door, i think), and the edges of the white wood have gone yellow. I love my white kitchen, but whenever i see a 'white edge gone yellow', i cringe.

  1. Agree, the oil based paints used on wood trim yellows. The latex used on the walls stays white and that's what makes it look so bad. Strip the trim and use a semi-gloss latex paint on it.

  2. nananana   the problem is this the paint has turned yellow due to the oil in the paints

for you see i am a lic painting contractor

if it bugs you too much you can  re prime and paint the inside only with a good latex paint simi gloss

the gov as baned all new oil base paint being made so the are making latex paints /the paint stores/

ps if that is too much for you heres a hint leave you doors open and let the sunshine in on them after awhile the will lighten up after awhile

    good luck

  3. Most likely there was stain or sealer of somekind on your woodwork at some time,so you will need to get some paint called killz.paint over yellow areas with it let dry then paint over with your  white paint.this should fix your problem.Good luck.

  4. white oil paint contains a chemical that reacts with daylight to keep stop yellowing which is why you find the insides of cupboard doors always go yellow.

Water based paint does not do this.

  5. I noticed the same on my cabinets' doors. I found that the cleaners stored inside (such as laundry detergent) had caused it, probably some out-gassing effect.

I was able to clean in with a rug and yellow general-use cleaner.
