Hello & Help!!!

I am having a joint house warming, boyfriends birthday and pregnancy announcing party on Sunday (easter) afternoon / evening and i've no idea what to make!

I am looking for new finger food / buffet ideas which will suit adults and children ranging from 2 - 60 years!!! Everyone does the quiche and pizza i want something new and exciting! (esp. as i can only eat not drink lol)

I really want to make most of it myself but with as little mess as possible. On the other hand i want it to look like i've been cooking all weekend.

We have never had the whole family over before as our last house was too small to fit them in so i really want to make the effort!!

  1. -mini m&m meatballs

    -veggies and dip

-bruschetta with the tomato and herb dip (sorry I don't know the actual name)

    -fruit platter/ salad

    -finger sandwitches

  2. mini meatballs with toothpicks and marinara sauce on the side, Pigs in a blanket, sliders (mini burgers with all the fixins)a pasta salad, a non alcholic punch, dips in a bread bowl, hummus with pitas, chicken wings with bbq sauce for dipping.

  3. Pick a theme like spring/Easter. seasonal foods might include eggs in a casserole type dish like a strata or frittata which can be made in advance and cooked while you entertain your guests, or deviled eggs. asparagus and other spring veggies with dips, spinich dip with bread,  sliced fresh fruits like oranges, pineapple. For the meat eaters mini sausages and/ or meatballs with sauce.  An assortment of breads, jam,, butter, salami  and cheeses. Some pastries like hot cross buns.  Bagels with smoked salmon and cream cheese. Spiral sliced ham. Chips and assorted black and green olives are popular buffet items.

  4. I know you said no pizza but what about some easy, white pizza's (no tomato sauce, just toppings and cheese) with some different ingredients, such as artichoke hearts, grilled chicken (buy a rotisserie chicken- way easy), roasted asparagus & things like that. Also, do blue corn chips with bowls of hummus, guacamole, & salsa. Do big dishes of meatballs (Italian or Sweet & Sour) or some Spicy or Honey Mustard, or Asian chicken wings. Also - spinach or regular lasagna rolls are easy if you just buy the sauce & they are more attractive than a big pan of lasagna. Shrimp cocktail is super easy, or bacon wrapped scallops. Sandwich wraps are great for the kids & when you roll them big & then slice into bite size mini rolls they go pretty far! Or do a pan of gourmet mac & cheese with your favorite cheeses. Brie cheese baked in puff pastry & served with bread and crackers is nice, too!

  5. If you go to Costco or Sam's Club, they have a wonderful artichoke dip, that comes in a huge container, to heat & serve with crackers or cut-up bread.......Fruit chunks to dip (try orange, lemon or mango yogurt, mixed well with some juice - no one will know it's yogurt)   ....  Get giant tortillas and thinly spread cream cheese (with chives is good) with thinly sliced ham & cheese.  Roll them up tightly; wrap the rolls with saran or tin foil and refrigerate;  cut into 1-2" pieces to serve on a platter  ....  cheese cubes with a small pretzel stick stuck into the top is really easy for toddlers to pick up and eat   ....  LAYERED TACO DIP

On a big platter, layer in this order:

    1 can refried beans

    1 small refrigerated container guacamole

some salsa to cover (storebought is fine)

    shredded lettuce

    grated cheese

cut up tomatoes & sliced black olives

    cut up fresh cilantro

.......Serve with big, sturdy tortilla chips to scoop through the layers......

  6. When you have lots of guests, I like to do things that can be done in a big batch and then ignored and doesn't take a lot of fuss.  One of my family favorites is nacho dip done this way

    1 large crock pot(6 quart)

3 quarts of canned or homemade chili

    1-3 pound block Velveeta cheese

corn chips, Dorito chips, what ever kind you like.

heat the chili and Velveeta together in the crock-pot.  If you want it more cheesy you can add another 1/2 block of cheese.

    Vegetarian version:

2/ 3 pound blocks Velveeta cheese

    4 cans of Ro-tel spicy tomato's

    heat together.

You can change this up however you want.  Like the chili but not the beans, use the veg version, or use chili with no beans.  Want it hotter?  add chopped canned jalapeno peppers.  After the cheese is melted and bubbly, turn the crock-pot to low and pass the chips or fresh veggies to dip.
