Party ideas for somone turning 50?

My sister-in-law will be 50 and the family is giving a party. We want to celebrate 50 with some gentle teasing, but she is not a big jokester type person so we don't want to go with the 'over the hill' stuff. (besides, lots of us are 50 or close to it ourselves) Any ideas of games, activities, quizzes, or whatever that can be fun but not offensive. We are a mixed croud of drinkers (not heavy drinkers) liberals conservatives and we all have kids 8-18 years old who will be attending as well.

thanks for sharing your ideas

  1. "Heres to dieing soon!" banner

  2. I catered a 50's party this past year - The invites told everyone to come in their favorite 50's attire!  The local party store had the 50's decorations.  Served burgers and fries and sodas; dessert miniature rootbeer floats.  Clear coffee mugs at the party store looked like the old fashioned beer mugs.  Had 3 trivia quizzes made up, from easy to hard.  Find out what your sis-in-law, watched on tv growing up - do a google search then make up your own questions.  google "1950's slang" and create a simple quiz over the terminology of the times...  Best wishes!

  3. The fiftys were the best of times for some. Do a fifty's theme. Get muggs & serve root beer w/whipped cream.  Go to the party store and get some rolls of paper with 45 records on it. Have the girls dress in bobby sox & ribbons in their hair(check out the movie "greese") many ideas in that. Have fiftys music so everyone can show their jiierbug talents.  We had a ball with ours.        Have fun.

  4. Wow too bad you aren't up for good jokes cuz I got a lot.I threw my Daddy a party for his 40th Birthday and my Mamow one for her 60th Birthday we had a blast,it was great!

  5. I did a 60th for my mom, decorated in her favorite colors (purple and pink) instead of the tacky over the hill c**p. we had it at a restaurant, decorated the tables with bud vases of lilies, scattered fake rose petals down the center of the tables and had candles on the side of the vases-looked real nice. do a picture board of all her pics throughout her lifetime from birth to now- my mom had the best time showing off her pics to everyone there! make up a trivia game of her life- Who was Suzie's first kiss? What is Suzie's favorite food/drink? Who is Suzie's favorite celebrity? stuff like that, you can make some of them about her embarrassing/funny moments too! have some prizes for the winners. you can have different games for the kids or just have a bunch of kid stuff available for them to play with like sidewalk chalk, bubbles, small puzzles or a fun board game. the adults can make their own fun

  6. have a bar and hard candy! midle-aged people luv that!
