Parupalli Kashyap beats Jan O Jorgensen in Men’s Singles opening round – Hong Kong Open Update
India’s Parupalli Kashyap registered his presence in the Yonex Sunrise Hong Kong Open by thrashing Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark in the opening match on November 21, 2012.
He survived a hard fought battle which prolonged to one and eight minutes before ending with 24-22, 20-22 and 22-20.
World Number 23 Kashyap, who is an unseeded player in this Super Series, prevailed in the first and ending sets to lock the honour.
On the other hand, Jan O Jorgensen lost this crucial match despite of having better odds. He could pocket only the second match point and crashed out of this prestigious event.
In the opening game, the Danish campaigner took off in perfect manner but he blundered in the final stage which led him to a woeful defeat.
World Number ten Jorgensen prevailed in three uninterrupted rallies and made best out of this flow to pile up a respectable margin of 11 at the half time.
After the mid-game break, few back-to-back unforced errors brought him down and allowed the lower ranked Indian shuttler to counter-balance the situation.
Kashyap did not squander this opportunity and swept the table with a tight yet decisive total of 24-22.
However, Jorgensen managed to make amends in the following game as he played with positive approach and bagged this vital match point on merit.
He utilised unusual tactics and confounded the inexperienced challenger with a blend of power packed smashes and deceiving drop net shots.
Though, Kashyap put an honest effort to transform his 1-0 lead into a straight-set win but his fluctuated performance came in his way to success.
He remained close on points table until last shot was played but finally he had to surrender after reading 20-22 score on the board.
This development subjected both contenders to a tough trial as they are just one step away either from pre quarter-finals or an early exit.
They snapped at each other’s heels and kept the audience glued to their chairs with a mesmerising show of skills.
The match kept swinging between them all the way to game point situation and this competition ended when Kashyap struck hard and tipped the scale in his favour with 22-20 margin.
