Parupalli Kashyap ensures his presence in semi-finals of 2012 Syed Modi International India GPG
Men’s Singles shuttler Parupalli Kashyap remained invincible in the quarter-final round of Syed Modi International India GPG and marched into the semi-finals on Friday, December 21, 2012.
He stamped Goh Soon Huat of Malaysia in an exhausting tussle by registering a favourable result of 23-21, 8-21 and 21-16.
World Number 20 Kashyap, who is second seeded player of this GP Gold event, prevailed in the opening and ending segments of the showdown.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian campaigner also showed great fighting spirit and served notice of his potential in the second set of match.
The battle heated up when Kashyap launched a brisk attack in the beginning of first set and pushed his competitor to back foot.
He bagged many valuable points in a row and established a decent lead with a respectable figure of 5.
Though, he lost focus for short span of time and allowed the opposing shuttler to narrow the gap on points table but then few productive rallies reinstated his dominance.
The Indian maestro played impeccable badminton in the final stage of this set and pocketed this match point with 23-21 score.
However, Kashyap could not go with same flow in the following game and allowed his challenger to bounce back into the contest.
Soon Huat did not squander this opportunity and avoided a straight-set defeat on merit. He employed interesting tactics and cornered his competitor in all areas of the game.
The Malaysian contestant played cautiously in the beginning but then struck hard to make a notable difference.
He finished first half of the set with an indomitable total of 11 and then made best out of this lead after the one-minute break. He bagged ten out of ending ten points and outshined Kashyap with a lustrous performance of 21-8.
Third set became crucial for both contenders as there was no margin of error for them. They remained equal until 13-13 and did not allow each other to enjoy a permanent lead.
At this stage, Kashyap showed his class and locked the honour with a convincing margin of 21-16.
With this win, he clutched a semi-final spot and his next challenger will be Tommy Sugiarto of Indonesia.
