Parupalli Kashyap ousts Kevin Cordon in Men’s Singles first round encounter in Indonesia Open
India’s top seed Parupalli Kashyap showed his impressive temperament in the court when she ousted Guatemala’s Kevin Cordon in a tough Men’s Singles first round encounter at Indonesia Open Premier Super Series 2012 in Jakarta, on Wednesday, June 13.
The in-form Kashyap, who is currently World Number 23 in Men’s Singles world placements, had to dig into his reserves to produce better shots and managed to overpower his World Number 33 opponent from Guatemala in a thrilling rubber-set contest.
On the other hand, Cordon played tremendous game throughout the match and troubled his higher ranked opponent by playing to his maximum speed. However, he failed to prove his worth in the ending points of final set and lost the battle in three games in 65
minutes.
Cordon started his run in a positive manner and denied his higher ranked Indian rival to take lead in the opening half. He was impressive in the court and managed an 11-8 lead until the interval.
After the break, Cordon continued his roller-coaster run and set up an impressive lead of 15-9. At this stage, Kashyap changed his strategy and played with aggression which helped him to level the score at 18-18.
The impressive Indian played with control and precision at the crucial stage and managed to wrap up the set with a 21-19 score on the board.
In the following set, it was the Indian who took a reasonable lead this time until the end of opening half.
Kashyap continued his elevated performance but failed to earn points at the ending stage as his rival played flawless badminton. The Indian remained unlucky in the end and lost the set with a difference of 19-21.
In the final set, both men played attacking and positive badminton without showing any sign of slowing down the pace of rallies. Until the break, the score was close.
However, after the interval, Cordon was ahead at 16-15 when Kashyap stunned him by grabbing six points in a row to bag the game with a margin of 21-16.
The higher ranked Kashyap won this epic battle by taking 65 minutes with a thrilling 21-19, 19-21 and 21-16 score on the board.
