Parupalli Kashyap positive to edge Chen Jin after clearing India Open pre quarter-finals
Men’s Singles campaigner Parupalli Kashyap of India cleared pre quarter-final round of Yonex Sunrise India Open and he showed determination to surpass Chen Jin in quarter-finals on April 27, 2012.
World Number 30, P Kashyap stamped Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand in second round match with 15-21, 21-14 and 22-20 scores on the board.
The Indian shuttler showed strong character even after losing opening game of the match and registered his class by exhibiting prime badminton skills.
On the other hand, the Thai contender took a great start but could not go with same flow in following games and crashed out of the tournament.
Boonsak bagged first set with a distinctive lead of six points and created massive pressure for his challenger as Kashyap admitted that it was huge task for him to lift that burden but all was well in the end.
He said, "My confidence was down after first game loss. I wanted to put pressure on him but he was breaking my rhythm. Because of his change in tactics, I too had to change my game. But I held my nerves in the end."
The seasoned shuttler is roped in Olympic qualification tussle with his compatriot Ajay Jayaram and higher ranked competitor in May 3 world rankings will earn a ticket to London Olympics.
World Number 27 Ajay Jayaram has a slight edge as he is 1000 points ahead of his friend but if Kashyap makes into semi-final of India Open he stands fair chance to unseat Ajay Jayaram.
Kashyap is scheduled to face top Chinese contender Chen Jin in the quarter-final and he is determined to soar high against danger man by using valuable experience of his past.
He said, "I have always played very close games against him. I played him many times. So with this kind of court and drift and with the right touch anything can happen."
Though, Kashyap will be enjoying home ground and crowd advantage but it will be an uphill task for him to surpass Chen Jin as he has lost all of three previous encounters against the higher ranked rival.
Moreover, Chen Jin will also sweat hard to cement his spot in the London Olympics as a lot of fireworks are expected in quarter-final match of India Open.
