Parupalli Kashyap receives double advantage at India Open Super Series 2012 – Badminton news
India’s emerging player Parupalli Kashyap received double advantage as he reached into Men’s Singles semi-final of India Open Super Series 2012 and also confirmed his berth for the Olympic Games 2012.
The World Number 30 Kashyap, who is un-seeded in India Open, proved his worth and won all of his matches to reach into the quarter-final.
His opponent in the quarter-final was Chen Jin of China who withdrew allowing Kashyap to reach into the semi-final stage.
After reaching into semi-final of India Open, Kashyap will get enough ranking points to supersede his compatriot Ajay Jayaram who is currently place at number 27 in the world.
Jin withdrew from the quarter-final of India clash after knowing that he has achieved his target to qualify for the Olympic Games especially when the World Number 5 Peter Hoeg Gade of Denmark lost in the quarter-final stage.
While talking about his feeling after qualifying for the Olympic Games and also reaching in the semi-final of India Open, Kashyap said that he is feeling great.
He also said that he was confident to perform well against Jin considering that a huge home support was with him.
He said, "It's a fantastic feeling (to qualify for the Olympics). Not that I was sure to win against Chen Jin but I had played against him before. Given the past results and the home support I was confident of doing well against him. But this has come as
a surprise and my entire focus now will be to do well tomorrow."
Kashyap’s main rival for achieving an Olympic berth was his higher ranked team-mate Jayaram who could not play well in this tournament.
Jayaram crashed out in the second round of the tournament paving the way for Kashyap to get become country’s highest ranked player.
Now, Kashyap will supersede Jayaram when Badminton World Federation will reveal its rankings on upcoming Thursday, May 3.
The in-form Indian has got the prize of the untiring hard work he has been doing for the last couple of years and is also optimistic to perform well in the mega event as well.
