Question:

Parvovirus in infants? Any info about it?

My sister in law is pregnant. The doc suspects that the baby may have parvovirus. She has to be monitored with weekly untrasounds for a while. They say the baby may have to have a blood transfusion.

Can anyone tell me something about this disease? I read on the internet that most babies are fine. Anyone had any experience?

  1. My nephew was infected while he was hospitalized for another problem. His cheeks were extremely red for couple days, and he had trouble moving his hands, but he recovered just fine.

It's actually very common, and it's not dangerous. Your SIL would only have to be monitored if she or the father have sickle cell anemia, or if the kid is considered high-risk for sickle cell anemia. In that case, the kid might need transfusion and couple weeks of medical care.
