Question:

Pass Plus Scheme worthwhile for over-25s?

I am hoping to participate in the Pass Plus Scheme once I pass my Driving Test, however, have been informed that I may not even need to take the course because I am over 25. The main purpose for the scheme (cheaper Car Insuance Premiums) would not be applicable to me as I've been told it is because Premiums already reduce in price once you reach 25.

I'd still like to do Motorway driving, which by law a learner cannot use but as cost of lessons are already sky-high, should I really fork out for something which will not benefit me in the long term? I've already done Country Roads, Fast Dual Carriageways, Poor Weather Conditions and Town Roads during my lessons.

Please advise.

Thanking you for your assistance and co-operation in this matter.

:-)

  1. Perhaps the best way would be not to look at it from the point of view of money, but rather how your driving skills and confidence will benefit. (And that will probably help you in avoiding accidents and, at the least, costs).

Any decent driving instructor would be glad to help, even if not as part of an "official" scheme such as Pass Plus.  A worthwhile investment?

  2. Hi - the best advice I can give you is contact the insurance company and ask them.

For a list of insurers supporting the Pass Plus scheme visit the Pass Plus website: http://www.passplus.org.uk/insurers.asp

I would recommend to anyone who has just passed their test to either do the Pass Plus course, or just have a few hours playing on the M6! But if, like you say, you won't benefit from it - ie you will never need to go on a motorway  - then obvisously save your pennies!

The only thing I will say is that post test training is a lot more interesting and fun as you're not practising manoeuvres for your test - you are just driving! I am based in Coventry and when doing Pass Plus we go into Birmingham and play on the M6 and M42 - busy busy! Then out on the single track national speed limit lanes by Rugby (great fun!) - pupils that have done it have told me the learnt SO much and how it was so different to a normal driving lesson.

It's what you think will benefit you really - but whatever you decide - keep safe and take your time - even I'm still learning everyday!
