Thailand’s professional snooker player, Passakorn Suwannawat, has outplayed Aditya Mehta by a frame score of 6-2 in the final match of the 2011 Asian Snooker Championship. This event was being staged at the Yeshwant Club in India.
The Indian Ace potter, Aditya Mehta, who previously dominated Afghanistan’s Mohd Rais Senzahi by a frame score of 6-4 in the semi-final, has fallen at the last hurdle. However, Thailand’s Suwannawat on the same note produced high standards of game to win
his maiden continental title.
The overall score-line between the players was 60 (33)-41, 0-77 (57), 76 (40)-20, 59-58, 69 (69)-66 (66), 24-87, 83 (70)-13 and 72-61.
Suwannawat dominated the opening frame with a modest break of 33 to draw first blood 1-0 before the twenty-year-old, Mehta, responded in the second with a classy break of 57 to level things. Suwannawat restored his one frame lead at 2-1 in the third with
a top break of 40.
Mehta had a frame-winning chance in the fourth before he blew his golden opportunity by missing an easy yellow ball in the end and gifted the frame to his opponent.
There was a similar story in the following fifth frame. Mehta, former 2008 runner-up, knocked in a carving break 66 in the start and it looked as if he was going to reduce the deficit before Suwannawat bounced back into the game with a mind-boggling clearance
of 69 to clinch the frame.
Mehta, who was left down by four frames with five to play, brought a bit of life back into the match by winning the seventh but he lost the eighth again.
Mehta did his best to pull the scrappy eighth frame but in the end it was Suwannawat again who came on the top in the safety battle. He held his nerves and showcased his magnificent safety skills to gather 16 odd-points from his opponent before finishing
the matter off with an impressive 6-2 victory.
