Passat MPG?

Question

I recently had to drive from Manchester M13 to Birmingham B12 for a week. I have a 98 Passat TDI (red I) and my trip computer showed an average of 68mpg. Yesterday the computer showed (for the trip alone) 73.2mpg, avg speed 53mph, 89 miles.

On just under half a tank, it has done 370miles. Noone in my office believes it can do that much.

I want to know if someone else has been able to come up with such figures for this or a similar vehicle. Note that in the mornings 6-8, the M6 is fairly busy and it is quite hard to do more than 65 mph at most places esp around j10-8, 19-17 etc where the avg speed is less than 40mph.

Yup, ex wife's A4 TDi 90bhp used to return 70mpg religiously on any journey.
