  1. Yes there have been plans drawn up, but looking in around 25 years. It uses sc/ramjet technology after a certain speed.

  2. it was on the news last week.  A british company has come up with plans for a passenger plane that could get to Australia in about 5 hours, with a top speed of 4000mph.

However its only a plan and a long way from actually being made, if it ever does

  3. Someone's come up with a design for a hypersonic plane.  Like any high tech project, it needs a lot of financial backing just to get it onto the drawing board.  Hyping it up in the press is the first stage in getting the backing, so don't book your tickets yet.

To get the business model to work, you've got to be able to sell enough planes to cover your design costs as well as production costs and show a profit to your investors.  The airlines who buy them need to get enough customers to make a profit on the cost of the plane plus running costs.  It's all a highly risky business - after all Concorde never broke even and that had the backing of two governments.

  4. Not sure what you mean by "passenger plane", but there could well be a supersonic private/business jet in a decade or less. A prototype at least.

  5. There's been talk of this alledged aircraft for years.  Seeing will be believing.

  6. probobly a rumor

  7. Several countries have plans for a supersonic airliner but because of techno/financial problems they all remain on the drawing board
