Hi, Im going to be visiting one of my best friends pretty soon and her parents dont want to drive more than an hour to come pick me up at a train station and I dont want to take a bus if I dont have to..

Anyways here is my question..Does anyone know of a passenger train that runs from Chicago,Illinois ...South Bend, Indiana...or anything in that area....to Joplin, MO or Springfield, MO?

I've already tried Amtrak but the only place that it runs to close enough to where they live is Kansas City and that is a 2-3 hour drive and her parents dont want to go that far...

Thanks for any help!!!!

  1. Since rail service has been downgraded there are fewer connections. Sorry, you will have to take a bus are rent a car.

  2. Unfortunately the above answers are correct, sad state of things when there are people wanting expanded rail service and out elected representatives are so short-sighted that we lag behind almost every other "civilized" country in the world.

Where I live, Amtrak is not easy to get to and has terrible schedules, and despite that ridership is up 40% since 2002.

  4. The rail line from chicago to south bend, in is the south shore commuter line it runs about every 2 hrs www.nictd.com

  5. They started talking about running trains to Springfield from St. Louis last year,  but so far nothing has come of it.

For now,   it's Greyhound for you.
