Question:

Passing out from hunger?

Hello. I'm asking a question about my sister, since this happens to her from time to time. If she doesn't eat all day, then by the middle of the day or the end, she'll get so weak that she'll nearly pass out or vomit (not deliberately.) Today all she really had to eat was a chocolate bar and some chips, and she's been weak all throughout the night. I ate pretty much exactly the same thing that she did, but I've NEVER had this problem before, even though she does. She's been tested for diabetes, so it probably isn't that. Does anyone know what it might be? Oh, and if this helps, she's overweight as well.

  1. She could be somewhat hypoglycemic. A chocolate bar has simple sugars. She needs something with more complex sugars that will stay in her system longer. Peanut butter... lots of protein.

  2. She needs to eat FOOD not chocolate bar once a day.

Just because you can get away with simply eating junk does not mean she can or should. She most likely is over weight because of this form of food plan. She needs good food frequently. She most likely has HYPOglycemia which is low sugar levels from eating something sweet then her glucose spikes like yours does, but doesn't go back to normal, it goes beyond normal all the way to the basement.

Quit treating her this way. Get her a hamburger three times a day.

  3. Different people have different intake and metabolic needs, and tolerate fasting differently. If she's big, she may just need more intake to keep her going.

Most people won't faint from a few hours without food. That's not normal. And neither is her diet, She needs to stay away from chocolate bars and chips, and switch to a healthier diet... proteins, fruits and vegetables, a few good carbs, and plenty of sugar free liquids. No junk. Moderate exercise combined with that would be even better - even walking is good.
