Passive HDMI switch vs Active HDMI switch?

Are there any issues with passive HDMI switches? Are they prone to the same electrical problems as any other manual switches or is that a thing of the past? Is there a possibility of damaging my PS3 or cable box using a passive HDMI switch?

Well they're just like any other mechanical switch...they will wear out and have noise problems after they age....

Your PS3 and TV set won't have any problems with switching, but you will have to deal with Handshaking problems as the switch gets some age on it....

May have to flip the switch back and forth several times to polish the contacts...even straight out of the box.
