I'm looking at a passive power conditioner meant specifically for audio equipment and I was wondering if it would work with video equipment as well. And, how many joules(?) of protection is recommended?

  1. DO NOT BUY MONSTER! Monster is over-priced c**p and it's a proven fact that monster cables aren't any better than average cables. Look at some of the stuff APC has. They are a very good surge protector brand and they have a few power conditioners.

  2. Monster uses a superior transorb set up vs. the prevalent parallel MOV set up that will degrade in protection over time. joules are watts per second. I would recommend at a minimum 10 times nominal draw. Most audio systems could use about 3000 joules of protection. Audio is the most noticeable to benefit from the conditioning again not much of a difference. Video not so much but it is there. It is relative to the equipment that you are using.

  3. Monster cables manufacture some very good quality power conditioners for audio equipment. They are expensive and most find them overpriced and over-rated but I find it a good investment. Check the link below.
