Passive use of "to assign"?

Could you please tell me if we can use “to assign" in a passive form like "to give", "to tell", ...

For example: "I was given a new task". Can I say "I was assigned a new teacher"?

"to assign" is the infinitive form of this verb. The sentence you have composed is correct, but if I wished to illustrate the passive voice I would say:

"A new teacher was assigned to me."
