  1. I go to cancun once year and have a condo out there. I travel from the US and you have to have a passport to go to mexico. However, you don't need a visa. Visa's are only used if you plan to stay in another country for more then 7 days to about 2 weeks. You can find the passport info at the US Department of State website.

As far as cancun or cozumel. I can tell you this much, they are within driving distance of each other, but I'd much rather stay at cancun and take a day trip to cozumel which is not that far. You can go there in less then an hour on the tour busses they have. Cozumel is a little boring whereas Cancun is where all the excitement is at. Kinda like Vegas and Laughlin.

  2. YES YOU DO, Final answer. Do not go without it. Look in the Homeland Security website.

  3. You MUST have a passport to fLY anywhere in Mexico ( or any other place outside the U.S and its territories.)  You do not need a passport to travel by LAND or SEA to Mexico until after SUMMER 2008.  See 1st website below and read the top half of the page carefully for the correct, current info.  See 2nd webdite for all passport application info.  Passports are currently taking 4 to 6 weeks to process.  You can get one in 2 to 3 weeks if you pay the extra $60.00 for expediting it AND the fees for EXpress mail.  Hope you have a great trip.

  4. yes, as of january 2007, the government has now made it mandatory to have a passport to travel to cancun and anywhere else out of the country.  i know this because my mother-in-law's passport did not arrive in time for us to travel this past september.  making passports mandatory caused a processing backup, but with SEVERAL phone calls, a representative advised that we could go online and print a form with a processing id number that served as evidence that she in fact had applied for a passport.  even with this paper work, we caught H-- trying to board.  and wouldn't you know it, the passport arrived while we were in cancun.

  5. If you are a US citizen, you need a PASSPORT to fly to Cancun or Cozumel.

here is the website to check.

Good Luck and I hope your surprise is a success. What a nice wife)

  6. We went to Cancun and yes you do need a passport.

Visa to stay in Cancun?  No, unless you plan on staying there longer than 90days, working, or studying.

If you are a US citizen you will need a passport to leave the US, if not then I beleive you can not leave the US unless you are permitted to.

  7. I visited Cancun last year, coming from Canada. I did need a passport, first thing they checked when I passed through customs. Its always a good decision to have a passport handy, no matter where you're visiting.
