I live in the Uk but want to visit my dad in France for a holiday next saturday. I went in January and when my passport was being checked they said i should think about getting renewed because it runs out in Aug 08. They said you need a certain amount of months left or something. Am i going to be able to travel now with just 4months left on my passport?

  1. 6 months rule applies

  2. Hi no im afraid you must have 6 months still valid when entering any country.

  3. Best things is to call and ask. I believe you cannot travel if there's less than 6 months on it but because all travel with be within the EU it might be less. Better check.

  4. Well, here is the deal, many countries require a certain number of months left on a valid passport from the entry date of your visit. Some can be as few as 3 months while others require as many as 6 months. However, I dont think you even need a Visa as you are from the UK.

  5. Outside of the EU most countries require you to have minimum 6 months left to run on your passport, you shouldn't have a problem.

  6. I'm sure you'll be fine, as long as you return by August. Whoever said that probably understood that you were going to travel and stay abroad for a long time, in which case you would need those extra months.

  7. Just ring travel agent or French Embassy for answer.  Don't forget to obtain your 111 card for NHS treatment abroad.

  8. From the website below:

"British nationals must have a passport. A visa is not required for endorsed British Citizen passport holders. Visa exemption is for three months for passports endorsed British National (Overseas), British Overseas Territories Citizen and British Subject with the right of abode in UK."

So as long as you're a British Citizen, your passport should be fine, you just have to be back in the UK by the time it expires.

  9. no you can't travel now....you have to have a 6months left on your passport...you should renew now. You can normal get new passport forms from your local post office.

  10. As long as the return ticket date is before your passport expires, you should be alright, says my husband who is from the UK as well.
