Question:

Passport Photo gone wrong?

I have spent so much money on passport photos. I got them all from photo-me booths and sent of one and was told it was so light and asked me to send another one which they accepted, after my interview I eventually got my passport but to my horror I was blue! Honestly I am blue and I have grey hair! How many 16year olds do you know with grey hair! The photo itself is good and clear but the photo on my passport doesn't even look like me, you can only just see my eyes!

I don't know what to do, my parents told me not to pursue anything since they might ask for it back and have to spend more money on it but I hate it so much! Has this happened to anyone before or are they just out to get me?? :(

  1. It depends on the country you submit to, for example most countries us biometric face recognition software, so they scan in the photo and print with a hologram over it, but it should not be blue and grey and really really faint.

but countries using the old methods, as the other person suggested, they laminate the actual photo and lamination heats the photo and dis-colours it, and makes it lighter.

you have some options if you are first submitting you photo:

if it is the new biometric scanning method, to make the photo as true as possible, you should go to a photographer that can make you face 2D and not 1D, ID photographers such as myself us professional cameras and lighting equipment to enhance you features and make you look as life like as possible and we also use light positioning to create subtle shadowing to create  photo that makes your features soft but accentuated. making the photo life like, but also a bit darker so when scanned in it is balaned out: is a few tricks used by people like my self.

These techniques can be used for old and new methods for passport and visa photos, but there is a BALANCE, if ithere is too much shadowing or too dark or too contrasting than they will get rejected!

Please bear in-mind in the hologram biometric photo, that the actual photo is stored on the passport database and chip in the pasport and this is the photo that is seen by the biometric computer program when you scan your face in the airport (being testing in airports this summer!) so not as many people will see it :) e.g. passport control officers.

Also if you do want a professional photographer to take and make your photo, please verify that they guarantee the quality, so if the photo is rejected, you can get it retaken or your money back.  Also that you aren't getting charge an unreasonable amount of money for photos (especially for photos that you think are not up to standards)

We guarantee our photos and photos generally range from £4.95-£6.95 depending on the country (sizeand time it takes to make)

Please also take into consideration that if a photo is reject, you should be able to get a refund by going into the shop or calling their customer service number: don't let these companies think they are doing a good job, when they are not.  This way no one will benefit, alway give feedback if you can...
