I want to go on a cruise in mid-March with my family. My brother doesn't have his passport. To go on a cruise does he need his passport or just his birth certificate?

I have checked various websites and got 2 different answers. One was Summer of 2008, the other January, 1, 2008

  1. Passports are NOT needed for SEA travel  in the CARIBBEAN until a "later" date that has not yet been set.If you are going on a cruise in a different region ( like Europe), you do need a passport, but if you are cruising in the Caribbean, not yet.  See website below and read the top half of the page carefully to see the current info. some cruise lines want their passengers to have passports even though the law does not yet require it, so it is wise to call them and ask.

  2. It depends on if the cruise is within the U.S., puerto rico and the virgin islans or not. If is it within the aforementioned places you do NOT need a passport for mid-March travel. However if you are traveling to somewhere else he DOES need a passport. Hope this helps!!

  3. As long as you are not flying into or out of another country then all you will need is a birth sertificate.  President Bush just signed legislation that puts off the Passport requirements for Land & Sea crossings until 2009.

  4. he needs a passport.  went to a caribbean cruise and each passenger was check with their passports.

  5. As of now, it's not needed. He can just use his BC and DL.
