Passport Questions?

Ok here is the scoop..My husband and I applied for our passports in April, and when we check the online status I AM showing up in their online status check but husband is not. When I called them they are seeing that he is in their system as being processed and I am still sitting in a lock box somewhere. With the regulations being lifted I am good to go because I am showing being processed as well but what about him? I have sent them emails and nothing received back yet. I do know that they entered us into their "so called system" on May 7th and May 8th (for hubby), and with me being in the lock box still, how much longer will it take. Also hubby is in step 3 of 7(which is the name check stage) so anyone know how much longer on his? But mainly what can I do to find out why he isnt showing up on the online status check? If he isnt showing up on the online status check how can I prove that he is being processed?

  1. I'm in a similar situation. I leave soon for a study abroad in France and I can tell you too how frustrating this all is. You have a couple of options. To get help I contacted my local state Representatives office. It sounds weird to call them for help, but they deal with passport issues and are great! They can help expedite for free if you're traveling with in 14 days. Also try calling the national passport center.

The number is 877-487-2778. Press option 1, then 3, then 1. Unfortunately you'll have to call several times. It usually takes me about an hour to even get to be placed on hold. When you call it will keep saying that they are busy and to call back. But keep hitting redial and option 1-3-1. You'll be on hold for an hourish, but the people are really nice and helpful. I have to call every night (which they tell me to do) to check on my "status." So call your local reps office (i included the link below to find yours in your area), then call the 877 #. Good luck!

Update: If you call they can provide proof. Also if youre leaving within two days that can overnight it.

  2. Hi! Unfortunately sometimes government offices move at a snails pace. Especially now with the surge of people applying for passports so that they can go on the famous carribbean cruises, argh! I am surprised that you even showed up in the system. I wouldn't worry about it. They HAVE to issue the passport one way or another. It took me about six weeks to get my passport and that was a few years ago. They didn't give me any kind of receipt either and looked up my status by taking my social security number and mother's maiden name. It may take a few more weeks but I would be sure and call them frequently to find out. I have heard that its slow to get a passport nowadays so I would expect delays.

If you are traveling soon, then let them know ASAP. Whenever I submitted my application for my passport I gave them a copy of my itenerary at the time of issuance. Safe travels and best of luck.
