Should Canadians get reimbursement for the inconvenience of having to acquire a Passport to visit the U.S. since it was the U.S.'s idea that Canadians need them to cross the Canada-U.S. border?

  1. No, I don't think so.  Canadians have the choice to stay within Canada or leave in most cases.  (other than for work reasons-and even then it is like the cost of doing business)  On a very basic level, Canadians should be staying within our own borders to promote our own economy.

You cannot blame the USA for trying to protect itself for the possibility of another tragedy such as 9/11.

  2. It's fine, but only if U.S. Citizens get free passports too.

  3. Actually you do not require a passport yet to cross the border unless you fly.  Personally I had my passport years before it was even considered.  To answer your question, NO, the rules a country makes are it's own business.  There is no requirement that we travel to the US or any other country.  You may as well ask Canada to reimburse people from countries we require passports from, it is basically the same thing.  As to whether a passport ends up being required is still up in the air (in more ways than one) however.  There are a variety of options being tested which may end up being acceptable.  I originally received my passport because I was making a trip to New Zealand and I don't think they shoudl refund me either.

  4. No, unless the US is also requiring you to visit the US.  They should also charge you an admission fee at the border.

  5. I don't think Canadians should go to U.S., Canada has everything and the health care is free, If you are hurt in U.S. and don't have insurance, you will be broke real quick
