  1. She should get a state issued ID card, if she doesn't have a drivers liscense... It looks like one and acts like one, and you can get one for people of all ages. Is is 100% sure she will need it? No. Would it suck to be in Japan and run into a situation where you need it and don't have it? Definitely.

  2. may depend on the airline and airport and customs. You could bring a birth certificate as a backup, but as it not a photo id, it may not work.

I'd check the listed requirements on the US and Japan customs pages, and the airlines you are taking. You can get a photo gov't issued ID even if you don't drive though.

  3. She needs a passport with the proper visa in it.  The passport is verified ID.  She does not need anything else.

  4. You should contact the airline you are flying on, a professional travel counselor or the Japanese embassy or consulate for your information.

It would all depend upon what nationality you are, what country's passport you carry and why you are going.

Don't look for that kind of info on here.

  5. to get out of the country one must use a passport with a visa for Japan , no other ID is asked when traveling

that is why you have passport.

  6. a passport by itsself should be ok.

  7. Your sister's passport is her ID.  she will not need anything else.  If she is a US citizen, she will not need a visa for Japan unless you are planning to stay for more than 90 days.  Here is the official word:

"JAPAN - *Passport and onward/return ticket required.  Visa not required for tourist/commercial business stay of up to 90 days.  Americans cannot work on a 90-day “visa-free” entry. "
