Passport help.?

I'm travelling overseas in December this year from Australia to Asia. I'm 18 years old and still have my child passport. It has 6 months validity left.

As I'm going byself, will this be ok, or do I need an adult passport?

Thanks.

  1. you have to have at least 6 months to travel (of validity left on your passport ). it is the law,

hong long are you going over there for?

if longer than 3 months? get a new passport

but beware that it might not be ready in time.

ps: does it have 6 months left now or by the time you will leave?

when you leave, you must have 6 months left on your passport, so in december you will only have 4 months left, you will not be able to leave the country with 4 months only;get a new one now .

  2. Most countries won't let you travel on a passport that expires in 6 months.

    Go get an adult passport.

  3. All countries would be letting you go by yourself because you're legally an adult in most of them (kids go through as well and they just tell the flight attendents on the way).

I think you will need a new passport mainly because when you enter most countries (depending on the agreements between Australia and the country you're visiting) they like you to have at least 6 months validity from the time you enter. Check with a travel consultant (just pop into Flight Centre) or call the countries' embassy that you're visiting).

Some allow for 3 months validity (between Australia and Asia) but you might want to play it safe. Plus it only costs $200 to get a new Australian passport and they process them in 2 weeks (unlike the Americans who are at 8-12, Australian priority is 48 hours processing). Just click on the link, fill it out, download the renewal form and head down to your nearest post office.

  4. You have to be covered from the time you leave to the time you get back plus 6 months after.  I would suggest just going to go ahead and get the adult passport since you will have to do it anyway.  They are $75 at the post office.  Plus cost of pictures which you need to get done before hand at any Wolf Camera or a place like that.  Enjoy your trip i'm jealous!
