  1. Do you have both? It's probably easier to enter the US with a US passport if you have it but if you've only got one, then just use the passport you do have. British citizens are able to enter the US for up to 90 days.

  2. Your passport is fine.  The first answer is not correct.  As long as you have a valid legal passport no matter where you come from you can come to the US.

  3. If you are a US Citizen, you are required by  US law to show your U.S. passport when entering and exiting the country by air.

Although it is true that you are able to enter the USA with a UK passport without a visa, you still are required to use your US passport.  Is it possible the US immigration won't know the difference if you enter and exit with your UK passport?  Yes.

However, if you plan only to use your UK passport, you may encounter difficulty at the UK airport by the airline, as I did, especially if you don't have a return ticket.  I am a dual Irish/US citizern, and when leaving the UK for the USA, I showed my Irish passport (which, like the UK, doesn't need a visa).  The airline authority asked where my return ticket was (to prove, I assume, that I wasn't an immigration risk, and that I planned on returning to europe).  When I said I didn't have one, she implied that she would deny my entrance on the plane, hence, I immediately showed my valid US passport, and the trouble ceased.

Long story short, what's the big deal?   Renew your US passport if you haven't already done so, and show it to the airliine, and US immigration authorities, and you'll be 100% sure to have no problems.
