Passport help- urgent!?

Hello, I have an urgent passport question. My family and I have been planning a trip to London and Paris for quite awhile now, and we will finally be leaving in 3 weeks. BUT, my dad's U.S. passport expires 1 month after returning. We have been freaking out since we read about having a passport validity up to 3 or 6 months after returning, but we are still seeing answers that say you can travel as long as the passport is valid for that period of time you spend in that country. Will he be able to travel with us?

  1. The problem is getting back into the US. You have to have 6 months left on your passport to get back. If you don't have that, some airlines won't let you on the plane. This statement came from the website:

    http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/ren...

"If possible, you should renew your passport approximately nine (9) months before it expires.  Some countries require that your passport be valid at least six (6) months beyond the dates of your trip.   Some airlines will not allow you to board if this requirement is not met. "
