Passport needed for Mexico?

Question

We're planning to walk over the foot bridge into Juarez in a couple of weeks and I was wondering if we walked back over, would we really need a passport, or just our IDs? I know the laws changed recently, but I'm looking for an answer from someone who has recently crossed into Mexico and back on foot. Thanks!

i havent gone to over to mexico recently.. its better to take your passport just incase someone on the border doesnt know the law very well. it happens.

As it stands now, you can cross by land and sea into Mexico until the first of 2008.  The projected date for passport requirements is Jan 1, 2008, but it could be pushed back again..but if you are going prior to the end of the year all you need is your drivers license, and I would take a copy of my birth certificate.

My family walked across the bridge into Juarez a few years ago, no problem going, but coming back into the USA we were really questioned.  We did not have anything but our Drivers License, no birth certificate, they wanted us to show proof of citizenship.  This happened prior to 9-11 so I am sure they are stricter now.

NO YOU NEED PASSPORTS IF  YOU ARE GOING TO CROSS THE BORDER THEN COME BACK

You do NOT need a passport to travel to Mexico by LAND.  That part of thr WHTI (the passport law) does not go into effect until between Jan. and June 2008...exact date has not yet been released.  See website below to read law for yourself.  See 2nd website, read under "entry requirements" to see that air and sea travellers need a passport to enter, not land travellers.  you do need a gov't issued picture i.D. and certified birth certificate.

I do not under stand what "Jenny " is saying...She says "No", then says you need passports to cross and return...seems to contradict herself.
