  1. 1st answerer did not give you the CURRENT info.  Passports will NOT be needed to travel to and from Mexico by LAND until after SUMMER 2008.  See website below and read the top half of the page CAREFULLY to see the newest announcement from the state dep't.  Now, as a U.S. permanent resident, your husband CANNOT get a U.S.passport (untill he becomes a citizen if he decides to).  He must use his passport from his home country when the passport law goes into effect.  I woud encouage you to get a passport soon too, as there will be another grand rush next spring.  Neither of you needs r can get a Mexican passport ( unless your husband is a Mexican citizen), as only Mexican citizens can get a Mexican passport.  your passport must be from the country you are a citizen of.

  2. I would go ahead and get passports because you will need them for land travel to and from Mexico after December 31, 2007.

You husband would need a U.S. passport since he is a legal citizen.

I think until the rule goes into effect, you can use a valid license, resident card, or birth certificate for border travel by land, but you'll definitely need a passport for this at the beginning of next year.
