A friend of mine is going on holiday to Scotland. He does not have a passport but he is English and is flying from England. Can he travel by plane using just his Driving Lisence photo ID card? It use to be ok but am not sure now with the tighter terrorist laws etc... I mean you can't even take bottles of water onto the plane now!!

Can anybody help??

  1. shud b fine i travelled from england to scotland on a plane with absolutely no id, i dont even know how i managed that ?

  2. Thats fine, any form of photographic I.D. is acceptable for domectic flights. I have travelled to N. Ireland on a staff i.d. card.

  3. A photocard driving licence should suffice for airlines and airports. I am Scottish, but live in England....I never need my passport for any, just my driving licence.

Hope your friend has a great time in Scotland. I am biased obv but it is lovely x

  4. No passport required as long as he has ID.

  5. glad you like scotland- enjoy your trip/ lol

  6. You don't need a passport to travel within the UK. Although it is always wise to check.

  7. Usually the credit card you book the ticket on is sufficient to retrieve the boarding card from the automated machine at the airport.  He then proceeds to the bag drop where he shows his boarding card and they take his bags (if he has any).  This is the same for any travel within the United Kingdom.  If he was to travel outside the UK he would need a passport.  If he wants to bring it as extra ID then fine but I have never been asked for one.  You CAN take bottles of water on a plane as long as you buy them from the shop once you have cleared security.

As for the other answers, you don't need a passport to travel within the UK, otherwise everyone in the UK would have to have a passport or a driving license wouldn't they, and what if they do not drive and have never travelled abroad nor have any plans to.  It's not like you can ban people from their own country.  Of course they can travel.

  8. normally photographic id but may need passport on some airlines

  9. You don't need to use a British passport to travel within Britain.

  10. If he is flying from England to Scotland why should he need a passport?Scotland is in the same country of England...The United Kingdom!

  11. It depends on the airline. Probably, but I'm not that sure, and I know that when you land even if you come from the UK you still have to show your passport like in Gatwick.

  12. A photo ID driving licence is OK.  He should check with the airline he is using.

  13. King Alex might shoot the plane down ... he doesn't like the English. If he gets his own way he'll turn Scotland into North Korea.

  14. i'm pretty sure my dad had to take a passport when he flew from london to glasgow...

  15. Usually the airlines will tell you what you need when you purchase your ticket.  READ THE INSTRUCTIONS WELL.  When in doubt, call them.
