Question:

Password protection (not) for files?

I have a password protected group. I've posted some files there. You need a password to see the file list because you have to be logged into the group page to see the list. But once you know the URL for a posted file, you can visit it even after logging out. So that means the files I've posted aren't actually password protected. Only the file list page is protected. That is not the same thing.

  1. there is no such thing as a pass word protected group. you need a Yahoo Account along with a pass word to access files of any group along with membership to that group. that 'pass word' is part of that members account, not the group. even if you had open membership, they'd still need a Yahoo Account and group membership to access files.

if the URL is sent to some one else, they will see the document/ file but they wont be able to access anything other than that URL to that file.

there also is no disabling of right click copying either, so either way files are not so well protected. best I can offer is never add a file you don't want mis-used.
