Question:

Password required for network after every sleep?

I just got a new macbook a week or so ago and am now having trouble with my internet connection. we have a wireless network, and I have to enter the network password ever single time my computer comes back from sleep. I never had trouble with my old windows computer, and when my older sister got a mac last year, she had no trouble. but the two new macs we have just bought will not remember the password when we enter it (although we always click "remember password in keychain).

I also purchased at the same time an ipod touch, which I also networked in the same way, but I have not had to reenter the password.

can someone please give me a really long, ridiculously detailed description on how to fix this? (seriously - I'm completely new to macs and don't know how to do anything, and on top of that I'm also really bad with computers, so unless you're really detailed, I won't be able to understand you)

thank you :)

  1. WOW!

The same thing is happening to me----I went to see the "Mac Genius" today and he was not able to help me. He said it could be the actual router----even though there is another Mac at my place and that one has not had any similar problems with the WiFi.

I will play around with the setting on my router and see what happens...do you have a 2Wire by any chance?

If I don't get an answer soon I may just try and get Apple to get me a new/different model unit.

I think I have good news!!!

I just changed my router's wireless password from WEP to WPA and that seems to have done the trick!!!!!

not sure what kind of router/modem you have but what I did is go to my router's settings page (just typed "home" in the address bar of Safari) and logged onto my router and there I had an option to change the encryption...WEP, WPA, and many others...I changed it to WPA, put in a new password and saved.

Then I went to network preferences to re-enter the new password for the Mac itself and saved.

Then to test I put it to sleep and woke it up and voila! it reconnected by itself in a matter of a few seconds!!!
