Hello, every one. I am a Japanese.I need help in English.

Is the sentence" I stayed with my grandparents for six months." correct in grammer?

What is the difference with "I had stayed my grandparents for six months" ?

  1. I am no expert but the second phrase seems to be the correct one. It is past tense and the first phrase, although acceptable, the word 'had' has been dropped due to laziness.  


  2. The first sentence is correct.

    The second sentence makes it sound like you are going to continue like "I had stayed with my grandparents for six months whilst my mum was ill" or something like that.  

  3. The first sentence means you used to stay and you no longer do.

    The second is when you are talking about a specific period.

  4. The first sentence is correct.  Because the word "stayed" is used- which means in the past, you do not need the word "had" before it.

    Example:  I STAYED with my grandparents. (means you no longer do)

                   I STAY with my grandparents. (you're still living there)
