how was the scientific method used in Louis Pasteurs method of discovery pasteurization?

  1. The scientific method involves using experimentation and observation to test an idea (hypothesis) so you can determine if your idea is incorrect (you can't prove that something is true, because there can always be exceptions).  

    Prior to Pasteur's experiment, people believed in spontaneous generation - that nonliving items could turn into living ones - like rotting meat would "turn into" maggots.  The people saw the meat, then in a few days would see maggots on it a few days later, so this is what they believed happened.  Another example would be when broth grew mold on the top.  Pasteur put broth in a specially shaped flask that wouldn't allow dust from the air to enter as easily to see if this would still happen.  See this website for what Pasteur did and his results:  http://science.howstuffworks.com/scienti...
