Pastor Maldonado aims for a strong race in Montreal – Formula 1 news
Williams’ driver Pastor Maldonado is aiming to perform well in 2012 Canadian Grand Prix which is to be held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal on June 10.
Maldonado is presently standing at 9th place in the drivers’ championship with 29 points. Moreover, he is 7 points ahead of Sergio Perez of Sauber-Ferrari and 6 points behind Romain Grosjean of Lotus.
He took his maiden victory in the Spanish GP held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona after claiming his first ever pole position. Furthermore, it will be important to mention that he is the first Venezuelan driver who has won a race in F1.
Unfortunately, he could not score even a single point in the Monaco GP as he was retired during the race. Additionally, he faced ten-place grid penalty because of his collision with Sergio Perez of Sauber in the qualifying.
Nevertheless, he said that they have been trying their best to make the essential developments and the necessary preparations so as to improve the pace of their car for the forthcoming races in order to secure a competitive position in this year’s championship.
In addition, he said that he is hoping to come up strong in the next race while he said that he really enjoys driving on the track in Montreal as he can take advantage of DRS zone to boost up his top pace during the race.
“We have been working very hard to improve the performance of the car and I can feel it getting better all the time. I am therefore hoping for a strong finish in Canada, a circuit which I really enjoy. It has a nice combination of corners with very high
speed straights followed by slow speed chicanes, and the feeling of speed is increased by the closeness of the walls. There is a big DRS effect on the straights as well so we should see some overtaking this week,” he said.
Besides, the chief operations engineer of Williams, Mark Gillan also said that they are making the best of the efforts to enhance their pace and are confidently looking forward to score some reasonable points in the race ahead.
