Pastor Maldonado believes Williams’ have potential to achieve more – Formula 1 news
Williams’ driver Pastor Maldonado believes that they have got the potential to achieve better results than they have attained in the last couple of grands prix.
Maldonado and his teammate, Bruno Senna could only secure 13th and 17th place finishes after taking start from 22nd and 16th grid positions and remained unable to pocket any points in 2012 Canadian Grand Prix held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal
on June 10.
Furthermore, the Venezuelan driver could not score even a single point in the Monaco GP at Circuit de Monaco as he was retired in the race. In addition, he faced ten-place grid penalty because of his collision with Sergio Perez of Sauber during the final
practice session in Monte Carlo.
On the other hand, Senna could only score 1 point with his 10th place finish after qualifying for 13th grid position.
Nonetheless, Maldonado said that they are capable enough to achieve more and are trying their best to make the essential advancements and the necessary preparations so as to improve the pace of their car for the races ahead in order to make their position
stronger in this year’s championship.
“I did my best in only one lap I had. I just try, and I just missed, which can happen. From our point of view I think we've been competitive; but we didn't get any luck. We just need to try to improve. We are not the quickest on the track but we are not
that far away,” he said.
“We need to work hard, especially with the car, to try to improve qualifying and the race,” he said. “We need to try to get the balance, and the best compromise, between qualifying and race.”
Meanwhile, chief operations engineer of Williams, Mark Gillan said that they are positively looking forward to perform well in the forthcoming races.
The British team is presently standing at 7th place in the constructors’ rankings with 44 points. Besides, they are 16 points ahead of Force India and 14 points behind their main rival Sauber. Above and beyond, they are making the best of the efforts to
fight for the championship title.
