Pastor Maldonado believes Williams have potential to fight back – Formula 1 news
Williams’ driver Pastor Maldonado believes that they can fight back in the remainder of the 2012 Formula 1 season if they continue to focus on their development process.
Maldonado performed amazingly well in the qualifying of the Singapore Grand Prix held at Marina Bay Street Circuit and impressed everyone after securing second grid slot behind Lewis Hamilton of McLaren who claimed the pole position.
Afterwards, even though he took a promising start in the race, however, unfortunately he faced a hydraulic issue in his car which caused his retirement while he was running in top five positions.
Nevertheless, he said that he is not feeling upset over his retirement in the previous race. Furthermore, he said that he is very happy that they performed well in the qualifying and had a good start in the race.
It will be important to mention that the Venezuelan driver has been surrounded by immense criticism that his driving style is too aggressive and he has caused many accidents in the season until now. Nonetheless, after the preceding race, he has shown that
he can be clean and competitive on track.
"I've showed everyone that I can race well and be competitive and clean. It was frustrating race, but at the same time I'm happy because of pace that we showed, especially at beginning," Maldonado said.
In addition, he said that they have got the potential to secure a good position in this year’s championship fight as they have successfully developed a competent car.
He also said that although they had the chance to attain better result in the last week’s race which they couldn’t avail it. Even so, he said that they are not feeling disappointed while he said that they must keep on pushing hard in the season ahead to
make their mark stronger in the championship battle.
"We have good potential," he said. "Maybe we don't have the best car all the way through race, but we are always trying to improve. In Singapore, we had great opportunity to be on podium, but that's racing. We are living in some bad moments but we need to
look forward. There are still races to go and we can recover. It's important to be calm."
