Pastor Maldonado determined to bring back glory to Williams – Formula 1 news
Pastor Maldonado, who has been driving for the Williams F1 team since last season of 2011, has expressed his determination to bring back the team back on top.
At the end of the 2010 season, Maldonado had replaced Nico Hulkenberg to become a part of the team. Unfortunately, 2011 happened to be the worst season in history for Williams F1. The current season has also not been very fruitful as the team is disappointed
in the recent performances of its drivers.
The second driver being Bruno Senna, both drivers have no contract deal for next year with the team. While Senna has been under much speculation about losing his position with the team at the end of this season, Maldonado is still expected to retain his.
The driver’s race victory at Barcelona in the Spanish Grand Prix and the fact that he is sponsored by PDVSA, a Venezuelan oil company, has greatly increased his chances of staying.
“It is my mission to put Williams at the top. Before I leave, I really hope to win the championship with this team. For sure I'd really like to stay. I've had two wonderful years with the team, [and] I won my first race after just over one year at Barcelona,
where we showed we are a great team. Apart from the last race, which was really difficult for us, I think we are doing quite well and improving every time, so it looking quite good for the team next year,” Maldonado said.
The team’s executive director Toto Wolff stated that while they are considering many options for the driver line up for next season, they need to focus on their current drivers right now. Senna was backing up similar comments saying that though he is under
pressure, he needs not to focus on that but on the four races left in this season.
Maldonado admitted that this season he has found himself caught in a circle of mistakes and has also been unlucky sometimes. He said that a few races ago they had been near the top and are still ready to put up a tough competition in next races.
