Pastor Maldonado feels confident about 2012 German Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Williams’ driver Pastor Maldonado has said that he is feeling confident about 2012 German Grand Prix which is going to be held at Hockenheimring on July 22.
Maldonado said that he felt very comfortable behind the wheel of his car during the start of the qualifying of the German GP and asserted that he could have secured a competitive grid position if the dry conditions had persisted towards the end. However,
he said that the rainy conditions hampered his performance and he could only set the sixth best time of 1 minute and 43.950 seconds.
Moreover, he said that he is expecting favourable weather conditions on the race day and is positively looking forward to perform well in order to attain better results for this team.
“The weather conditions today were really challenging with the grip levels changing so much between sessions,” he said. “We had a good balance in Q1 and Q2 but when rain hit I lost a lot of grip which made it difficult to challenge for place on the front
two rows. On the whole though I'm pretty pleased with where I have qualified and weather is looking a bit more favourable tomorrow which should suit our car.”
Furthermore, the chief operations engineer of Williams, Mark Gillan said that the Venezuelan driver performed really well during the beginning of the qualifying but he faced difficulties in full wet Pirelli compound tyres which hindered his performance during
the ending stages.
Nevertheless, Gillan expressed that they are happy with Maldonado’s sixth grid position for the race ahead.
“Pastor was consistent throughout each session, struggling a little more with car's balance in full wet conditions, but ultimately finishing strongly in sixth,” he said.
In addition, he said that they trying their best to make the necessary step ups to improve the pace of their car for the season ahead and are aiming to come up stronger in the approaching race.
Presently, the British team is standing at 7th place in the constructors’ championship with 47 points. Additionally, they are ahead of Force India and are behind their main rival, Sauber.
Above and beyond, it will be quite interesting see how they show up as the season progresses.
