Pastor Maldonado feels confident for 2012 Japanese GP – Formula 1 news
Williams’ driver Pastor Maldonado is not feeling disappointed over his retirement in the 2012 Singapore Grand Prix and has said that he is positively looking forward to perform well in the Japanese GP.
Maldonado performed amazingly well in the qualifying of the previous race held at Marina Bay Street Circuit and managed to secure second grid position.
Moreover, after the qualifying of the previous race, Mark Gillan, the chief operations engineer of the Grove based team said, “It gives us a tremendous amount of confidence. We saw that the car was capable of qualifying on the front row and that the race pace was equally impressive.”
Later on, the 27-old-year took a promising start in the race and was going really well but unfortunately he had to retire because of a hydraulic issue during lap 37.
“We've got a hydraulic problem. We have to retire now,” Maldonado’s race engineer told him on radio.
Even though, the Venezuelan driver said that they had a very struggling weekend in Singapore as he could not score even a single point for his team, nevertheless, he said that he is not upset and is confidently targeting to attain competitive result in the forthcoming race.
“It was a very difficult weekend, we were managing quite well,” he said. “We expected to be competitive in the race and then we got a hydraulic problem. The start was okay, but at the first corner on old tyres I ran wide. I was running well. I'm confident for the next race, we definitely have the potential for fighting for the best places.”
Presently, he is standing at 15th place in the drivers’ championship with 29 points. Besides, he is ahead of his teammate, Bruno Senna and is behind Nico Hulkenberg of Force India.
It will be important to mention that he has faced a lot of criticism because of his aggressive driving in the season so far. However, he has received full support from his team members who are ready to provide him with everything which he may need to enhance his pace in the approaching races.
It will be interesting to see how he performs in the remainder of the season.
