Pastor Maldonado has faith in Williams’ revival for 2012 season – Formula 1 news
Pastor Maldonado has said that he has faith in a much-improved showing from Williams in the 2012 season.
Maldonado believes that with the new car edition for the 2012 season Williams will make a comeback.
“I trust the team that the car we have made will be much more competitive than we had last season,” Maldonado is quoted by EFE. “[My debut year] was a unique experience and a very important one in my sporting life, and I believe also in all of the sporting
life of Venezuela.”
Williams has seen the worst season performance in 2011. It only managed to score five points in the season. Rubens Barrichello was the other driver and had one of his worst seasons as well. He only managed to score 4 points in the season and was criticised
for his lack of competitiveness.
Maldonado too only managed 1 point in the season and could not perform to justify his place in the team. Williams wanted to make some serious changes before the 2012 season so that the team could improve.
The changed a few personnel in the team and dropped Rubens Barrichello. It would have been 20 seasons for the veteran if he had extended hi contract with Williams into 2012. Maldonado was criticised for keeping his race seat without justifying his place
in the team but a heavy sponsorship backing from the Venezuelan oil company meant he was going to keep his seat.
There were a lot of speculations over the driver to partner Maldonado and a few drivers were in contention like Adrian Sutil and Bruno Senna. After the latest scandal clouding Sutil’s future it was decided that Senna will take the second race seat.
Senna also brings in a sponsorship deal of around $20 million which is believed to be the major reason behind his selection.
“I think Williams learned a lot from 2011,” Senna told SporTV. “A difficult year helps a team to realise what are its flaws and problems. They have replaced some people and changed some processes and a lot of things and are excited about having a good season.”
