Pastor Maldonado hit with ten-place grid penalty for 2012 Monaco Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Pastor Maldonado of Williams will have to face ten-place grid penalty for 2012 Monaco Grand Prix which is to be held at Circuit de Monaco on May 27.
Even though Maldonado set the ninth best time of 1 minute and 15.245 seconds in the qualifying of Monaco GP. However, he has been hit by ten-place grid penalty because of his collision with Sergio Perez of Sauber-Ferrari during the third free practice session
in Monte Carlo.
It will be important to mention that he took his maiden victory in the Spanish GP held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona after claiming his first ever pole. Moreover, he became the first ever Venezuelan driver who won a race in F1.
Furthermore, he is currently standing on 9th place in the drivers’ championship will 29 points. Besides, he is 7 points ahead of Sergio Perez of Sauber and 6 points behind Romain Grosjean of Lotus.
After winning the last race, he expressed that he is positively looking forward to perform well in the race ahead.
“The car is feeling really good this year and looks competitive in the running we have done today, so we're happy with that,” he said. “It's a shame we didn't get to run as much during afternoon, as we would have liked to gather more data on the tyres but
we still have P3 on Saturday. I love this circuit and think it's going to be a competitive grand prix.”
He also said, “I am full of confidence after my win at the last race, I go to Monaco with high hopes of getting another strong result for the team.”
On the other hand, the chief technical officer of Williams, Mark Gillan said that they have been trying to make the necessary developments and the significant preparations in order to improve the pace of their car so as to secure a competitive position in
this year’s champion fight.
Over and above, the ten-place penalty on Maldonado will definitely have a great impact on the British team which is presently just 2 points ahead of its main contender, Sauber-Ferrari and standing at 6th position in constructors’ championship with 43 points.
